East Texas
Jeff Awtrey has worked for KLTV and KTRE since 2009. He has been in East Texas media since 2000 with a previous background in newspaper.
Jeff was born in Oklahoma and lived a part of his childhood in Hawaii before his family moved to Nacogdoches, Texas. After graduating from Nacogdoches, he attended Stephen F. Austin State University and earned a degree in journalism.
Among Jeff’s career highlights are his part in covering Hurricanes Rita and Ike, the space Shuttle Columbia disaster, the film Charlie Wilson’s War and the Lufkin Little League All-Stars march to a national championship in 2017.
After a call to serve God, Jeff attended a mission trip to Haiti in 2012. He and his wife then participated in three more trips and took part in a team which distributed Bibles they were able to purchase through a fundraising effort in the states.
Jeff is the creator and organizer of the KTRE Pineywoods Showdown, an all-star basketball game which pits the top seniors of Angelina County against the top seniors of Nacogdoches County. Proceeds from the game go to a charity of the winning team's choice. The game has now been held for 10 years.
Jeff loves pro wrestling, SFA basketball and, above all, his Houston Astros. In fact, Jeff even proposed to his wife during an Astros game before an audience at Minute Maid Park.
Jeff and his wife, Cheryl, have three children, Adam, Emily and Anna.
As digital assignments manager, Jeff is responsible for managing the website, news apps, niche apps and social media for KLTV and KTRE.
