James Giles

James Giles is excited to join the WBRC 6 News Team as a multimedia journalist. James was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi and later relocated to Columbus, Georgia with his mother and sisters. James graduated from Shaw High School in 2014. He played varsity basketball and marched in the marching band. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves before attending Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. GO HORNETS! James has a degree in mass communications with a concentration in radio and television.
James' extracurricular activities include four years in the Mighty Marching Hornets Band at Alabama State University, where he was a tuba player. His best memories include marching in the Magic City Classic Parade and playing in the stands at the game. In 2017, James joined Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, a fraternity for professional men in music. He served as the event coordinator where he planned and hosted numerous events around the campus of Alabama State University. James is also a Fall 2021 initiate of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated through the Delta Iota Lambda Chapter in Columbus, Georgia.
Before joining WBRC, James got his start in local news in 2020 at WTVM News Leader 9 in his hometown of Columbus, Georgia. He was hired as a reporter. Within the first year working at the station, he was promoted to weekend morning anchor for the 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. shows on WTVM. James spent three years at WTVM, where he learned a lot about working in television and covering local issues that mattered to the community.
In 2023, James received a merit award from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters for Best General Assignment Reporting in Small Market TV. James winning piece was a judge denying a motion in the murder case of 5-year-old Kamarie Holland. The child was allegedly murdered just before Christmas of 2022 after she was reported missing by her mother, who is facing capital murder charges in the case, along with Jeremy Williams, the man police killed the child.
His interests include crime documentaries and television shows, horror movies, video games, working out, and sports. In James' off time, he enjoys spending time with his family. James is a Georgia Boy at heart but feels at home in Alabama.
