No serious injuries reported after crash involving FWCS bus

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Police are investigating a crash involving a Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS) bus Tuesday morning.

Indiana State Police (ISP) tells ABC21 that the FWCS bus was stopped in the 4000 block of Cook Road around 8 a.m. waiting to turn. ISP says a minivan was stopped behind the bus that was traveling east on Cook Road.

Witnesses told ISP that a car, driven by Alaina Hille, 21, of Fort Wayne, was also going east at a high rate of speed. Hille did not see the traffic stopped in front of her and crashed her car into the back of the van, pushing the van into the bus.

There were seven students on the FWCS bus at the time, but ISP says none of them were injured. The bus driver and the assistant bus driver were taken to the hospital as a precaution, but no serious injuries were reported.

ISP says the drivers of the minivan and the car said they couldn’t see because of a strong glare from the rising sun. Police say that Hille’s car was dirty and contributed to difficulty seeing because of the sun’s glare.

ISP warns drivers during morning commutes to keep the windows clean and clear of all obstructions, especially the windshield. Drivers should also plan the commute accordingly to allow for plenty of travel time.
