FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - If Indiana’s governor signs the bill, most Hoosiers over the age of 18 will soon be able to carry a handgun in public in the state without a permit.

The senate passed the revived and resurrected handgun carry bill by a vote of 30-20 Tuesday night in Indianapolis, after hours of debate throughout the afternoon and evening. The new version of the language, which went through conference committee after being added to a different bill, faced strong opposition from leaders with the Indiana State Police and other law enforcement.

Governor Eric Holcomb has not said if he would sign a handgun carry bill into law.
