FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - A local organization host’s a ribbon hanging event in downtown for national missing persons day on February 3.

This national day is where the country focused their attention, long enough, to recognize a missing person.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department’s website, there are six missing people, including Kevin Nguyen. He went missing back in December of 2018. Nguyen was last seen on surveillance video at the Arby’s on West Jefferson. Before that, he was at the Brass Rail.

On Sunday, his grandmother along with others, took a moment to remember him, hoping to keep his memory alive.

Amy Davis is a co-founder of J.A.V.A., which stands for Justice, Accountability, and Victims Advocacy in The Fort.

“At any given time we have upwards of 50 people missing from our community. So we really hope their families will see us out here and maybe join us next year or next week when we take the bows down. We put these ribbons up for all the missing people and this is just Kevin’s color, so we hace a tree for him. And that’s what I am doing today, putting one up for him.”

Kevin’s grandmother, Dee Campbell, tied ribbons along one of the busiest streets in Fort Wayne. She wants people to know what they represent. Not only that, she wants to make it a conversation.

“JAVA being here help support me because them being out here, like I said it’s just not for Kevin, but they have been there for every step of this. From actually one week after Kevin went missing they have been there every step of the way.”

According to FBI data, across the country in 2020 more than 540,000 people went missing, including more than 340,000 juveniles.
