FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - It’s that time of year again! The ice skating rink at Headwaters Park is set to open to skaters Saturday afternoon.

The rink’s 19th season kicks off Nov. 20 at noon and lasts through Feb. 27.

“Every year we have thousands of skaters and many spectators over our three-month season. Last year’s skaters totaled just over 22,000, which was down substantially over the previous year, due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, there has been a cumulative total of over 400,000 since the rink opened in November 2003,” Executive Director of the Headwaters Park Alliance Geoff Paddock said.

Paddock says the rink is recommending social distancing, will limit crowds in the concessions stand and warming room, and encourages face coverings.

This year’s hours are 3 - 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon - 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon - 8 p.m. on Sunday. The rink will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. They note that hours are also subject to change according to available staff.

Tickets for ages 13 and under are $4, adult tickets are $6, and skate rentals are $3.

Thanks to a donation from Old National Bank, the admission fee will be waived for kids 13 and under for the following dates: Nov. 30, Dec. 14, Jan. 4, Jan. 18, Feb. 1, and Feb. 15. Skate rental fees still apply.
