Red River customers react to company filing for bankruptcy

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Fort Wayne residents are concerned that trash pickup across the city could cause even more issues following the news Red River Waste Solutions filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Tony Blake said he’s had a lot of issues with the company including missed pickups and misplaced trashcans.

“It’s not my job to ‘police’ the neighborhood for the trash, but this is some common sense stuff,” Blake said.

In an alley where Blake’s sets his trash out, several bins were still there even though pickup was supposed to happen Friday morning.

“When I first got here, every Friday morning, 7:00 on the button, they were here,” Blake said. “Really for the last year though it’s been really bad.”

In 2018, Fort Wayne’s NBC uncovered thousands of complaints submitted to the city about Red River’s services over the course of eight months.

Earlier this year, Fort Wayne’s NBC reported missed trash pickups appeared to be increasing throughout the city, with the West Central neighborhood in particular complaining of issues with trash collection.

“Man get it together,” Blake said. “It shouldn’t be that hard of a job.”

A representative from Red River told Fort Wayne’s NBC a statement will be released in the near future.
